This first Goldwing was given a flat four engine of 999 cc capacity water cooled with belt driven single overhead camshaft. A five speed gearbox shaft driven to the rear wheel, the petrol tank was fitted below the seat, the dummy petrol tank accommodated the electrical components.

The 1000cc Goldwing fully laden with oil and fuel weighed approx. 650 lbs The GL 1000 was produced in two colours, Candy Red and Candy Blue, the top of the range featured a full fairing, spoked alloy wheels, crash bars and a rear luggage carrier. Unfortunately 5000 of the standard 1000cc machines were sold in the first year of manufacture and only 52 of the top of the range model was ever produced.
